Early Friday morning, temperatures in Beaufort County will drop to near-freezing, which could leave a thin coat of frost across the area — including your windshields.

An expected overnight dip to 33 degrees has triggered the National Weather Service to place the county under a frost advisory. Alerts such as these happen when the minimum temperature is forecast to between 33 and 36 degrees on a clear and calm night during the growing season, according to the service.

The advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Friday.

Freeze warnings have been issued for the counties farther north and west of the coast.

On Thursday morning, the NWS warned that the expected frost could kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if they are left uncovered. The service urged people to bring in or cover plants, bring pets inside and dress in layers.
