Enjoy the warm weather while it lasts, Beaufort County. There’s a cold front on the way

Beaufort County residents and visitors hoping to hit the beach one last time before the year runs out — or start 2022 with a day at the beach — still have a shot before a cold front hits the area late Sunday evening.

Brittany MacNamara, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Charleston, said the Lowcountry is seeing record highs for this time of year. A high-pressure system is acting like a dome and trapping in heat, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Beaufort County forecast

The weather on New Year’s Eve will be partly sunny and in the mid-70s with a chance of showers in the early afternoon. Fireworks displays are likely safe as the forecast projects no rain in the evening. The day will be cloudy with a low of 62 degrees.

New Year’s Day is projected to be mostly sunny and a high near 77 degrees.

Showers are expected Sunday afternoon, and the high will be about 74 degrees. At night, the temperature will take a plunge, dropping to 38 degrees and a chance of showers overnight. The cold temperatures will stay throughout the beginning of next week.

Monday is expected to be sunny, but a cool 52 degrees in the daytime and as low as 36 degrees at night.

Tuesday and Wednesday will be slightly warmer but still in the 40s Tuesday night.
