Heavy rain, strong winds expected Thursday across Beaufort Co. Here’s the chilly forecast

Severe storms are expected Thursday across Beaufort and Jasper counties, and once the rain clears out, cooler weather is in the forecast.

A bulletin from the National Weather Service in Charleston says a strong low-pressure system advancing through the Lowcountry may bring with it damaging winds, with wind gusts in excess of 58 mph. This could damage trees and power lines and result in power outages.

Those in the area should be aware of the possibility of a few brief tornadoes or waterspouts, mainly east of I-95 in South Carolina and along the coastline.

Heavy rainfall may cause minor flooding in low-lying areas, but the risk is lessened because the thunderstorms will move through the area quickly, the bulletin says.

There are small craft advisories for the Atlantic coastal waters Thursday afternoon through early Saturday.

The “approaching severe weather” caused the weekly Farmers Market of Bluffton to be canceled Thursday, an email from the organizers said.

Cooler weather is expected to stay after the rain leaves, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday’s high is near 74 degrees, but temperatures will drop to as low as 60 at night.

The forecast doesn’t include any rain this weekend but maybe some clouds.

Friday’s high is 71 with a low of 52, Saturday’s high is 68 with a low around 53, and Sunday will have a high of 73 with a low of 54.
