Beaufort Co. to experience high winds, floods from offshore Hurricane Teddy, NWS says

Hurricane Teddy may be far offshore, but Beaufort County beaches and waterways are likely to feel effects from the storm starting Saturday and into early next week, according to a news release from the National Weather Service in Charleston.

The county and most coastal areas in the state are under a coastal flood warning from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, and there will be a high risk of life-threatening rip currents Saturday and Sunday in area waters.

The swell of coastal and marine hazards will be aided by high tide cycles, the release said. Major coastal flooding is likely with all high tide cycles at least into Monday.

Here are the high tides:

  • Saturday — 10:57 a.m. and 11:18 p.m.
  • Sunday — 11:47 a.m.
  • Monday — 12:07 a.m. and 12:40 p.m.
  • Tuesday — 12:59 a.m. and 1:37 p.m.

Breaking wave heights of five feet or greater are possible at all beaches into early next week, and beach erosion is possible, the release said.

Strong onshore winds will accompany the dropping temperatures as Beaufort County experiences highs in the mid 70s.
