Hilton Head area hospitals cancel COVID-19 testing due to Tropical Storm Isaias

Hilton Head and Coastal Carolina hospitals on Monday canceled outpatient COVID-19 testing due to Tropical Storm Isaias.

The testing should reopen by Tuesday, said Tenet Healthcare spokesperson Daisy Burroughs. Tenet owns the two hospitals.

An outpatient drive-thru test requires a physician’s order but no appointment, Burroughs said.

Residents who were planning to get a test on Monday won’t need to reschedule their visit. They can just stop by another day, she said.

Beaufort Memorial Hospital, meanwhile, has not canceled COVID-19 testing at its express care clinics, according to hospital spokesperson Courtney McDermott. She added, though, that the clinics were expected to close early Monday. There was no set time for that as of 11 a.m.

The medical center is still running pre-surgical tests for patients.

The hospital, however, recently took down COVID-19 staging tents outside its main building due to the storm, McDermott said.

“It was just concerns about the wind,” she said. The tents should be back up by Tuesday.

No mobile coronavirus testing clinics were scheduled in Beaufort or Jasper counties on Monday, according to the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control.

A “pop-up” testing site will be open at Hilton Head High School on Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., per DHEC.

Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to make landfall in northern South Carolina tonight. Beaufort County is under a tropical storm warning until 4 p.m. Monday, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
