Hilton Head parks and beach access points closed Monday for Tropical Storm Isaias

The Town of Hilton Head Island announced late Sunday it would close its beach access points and community parks Monday ahead of Tropical Storm Isaias.

The storm is expected to affect Beaufort County on Monday. While very few businesses and homes are boarded up, strong winds and a storm surge will likely make beach conditions unsafe.

Although the town cannot close the beach itself, it can close the public beach access points, including: Mitchelville/ Fish Haul Beach, Islanders Beach Park, Folly Field Beach Park, Driessen Beach Park, Burkes Beach, Coligny Beach and Alder Lane Beach access.

Restrooms at all town parks and beach access points will also be closed.

Town offices will close at noon Monday, according to the town.

S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster has not called an evacuation order ahead of the storm. Forecasters expect Isaias to regain hurricane status on Monday and drop up to seven inches of rain on the South Carolina coast.

Lifeguards on Hilton Head flew flags warning of rip currents in the weekend leading up to the storm.
