Hurricane Isaias could bring strong wind, rain. Here’s when Beaufort Co. might get it
Beaufort County can expect possible effects from Hurricane Isaias beginning Monday afternoon, according to the latest from meteorologists.
Tropical storm-force winds are possible along the county’s coast on Monday, moreso for the direct coastline and less likely for areas like Beaufort that are more inland, said Ron Morales, a warning coordination meterorologist with the National Weather Service in Charleston. Beaufort County could receive 2-3 inches of rain through Tuesday.
Morales said meteorolgists were more certain of the storm’s track on Saturday but stressed the timing and intensity can change based on whether the storm weakens. He described the information on possible wind and rain as “crude estimates.”
“That’s about the best we can do right now,” Morales said during a briefing early Saturday afternoon.
There’s a 30-40% chance of tropical storm-force winds along the S.C. coast from the storm, according to the National Weather Service. There’s a 10-20 percent chance of strong winds higher than 58 mph.
The wind and rain is most likely Monday afternoon, though that could could come later if the storm continues to trend slower. Heavier rain and localized flooding are possible.
The storm was about 40 miles southwest of Nassau in the Bahamas as of 11 a.m. Saturday and moving northwest at 12 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The storm was expected to approach southeastern Florida late Saturday and early Sunday.
