Like a hurricane? Strong wind, heavy rain on the way through Beaufort County Thursday

The weather seems like a hurricane in February. That’s how one popular weather personality described the coming storm in a Facebook Live broadcast around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

While Mike Boylan of Mike’s Weather Page is based in the Tampa area, the same weather system will move across Beaufort County starting later today.

“We can expect strong, damaging winds, and an isolated tornado is not out of the question,” said Michael Stroz, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Charleston.

He said coastal South Carolina should expect to see the worst weather between 6 and 10 p.m. as the cold front pushes through.

Isolated storm activity is possible ahead of the line of showers and thunderstorms.

“The main concern with thunderstorms late this afternoon and tonight will be damaging wind gusts. Downed trees and power lines are possible,” said an 11 a.m. bulletin from the Weather Service.

Once the storm passes, temperatures will drop significantly. The forecast for Friday has high temperatures in the 50s and lows in the 30s.

Beaufort and Jasper county school districts both announced they would close schools early because of the anticipated weather.
