Horry County police contact Florida authorities about missing person case after skeletal remains uncovered

Horry County police contacted authorities in Florida after human remains were found in Volusia County, said Horry County police Lt. Robert Kegler.

“We contacted them and made them aware of our missing person case based on the fact that they have found human remains,” Kegler said. “There is no speculation that it is Heather Elvis and no indication that it is Heather Elvis.”

Gary Davidson, a public information office for the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, said in a release that skeletal remains were found near the DeLand city limits where Oak Street intersects with International Speedway Boulevard. A resident walking in the area reported the remains to police about noon Thursday, according to Davidson. DeLand, Florida is about an hour north of Orlando.

Prosecutors Monday detailed travel history of Tammy and Sidney Moorer who are charged with murder and kidnapping in connection with Elvis’ disappearance, which includes trips to Florida.

Kegler said the remains may not be Elvis and could be a missing person from Florida.

“We are making [Volusia County] aware because we do have an open missing person case.

Elvis was reported missing Dec. 19 after her car was found parked at the Peachtree Boat Landing in Socastee. Her body has not been recovered.
