South Carolina man killed when car crashes into tree, coroner says

A South Carolina man was killed over the weekend in an early morning crash, according to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office.

Ronnie Sease, a 36-year-old Moncks Corner resident, died Sunday in a single-vehicle collision, Coroner Darnell Hartwell said in a news release.

Sease was driving a 2020 Dodge Charger on Cypress Gardens Road in Moncks Corner when the car ran off the road and crashed into a tree, according to the release.

The coroner’s office was called to the scene, about 25 miles north of Charleston, at 1:21 a.m., according to the release.

The coroner’s office said Sease was the only person in the car, and no other injuries were reported.

There was no word if Sease was wearing a seatbelt.

Information about what caused the car to veer off the road was not available, but the wreck is being investigated by the coroner’s office and Moncks Corner Police Department.

Through June 7, at least 363 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2026, according to the state Department of Public Safety. A minimum of 914 people were killed in collisions in South Carolina in 2025, DPS data shows.

At least 16 people have died in Berkeley County crashes this year, and 34 people died in wrecks there in 2025, according to DPS data.
