South Carolina transfer running back arrested. Here are the details
A first-year member of the University of South Carolina football team was in a Richland County jail Sunday.
Sam Dixon, a running back transfer from Ohio State, was arrested Saturday, according to jail records. Dixon has also been suspended from the Gamecocks football team.
Dixon’s arrest was first reported by Gamecock Central.
Dixon was charged with three counts of breaking into auto/tanks where fuel is stored, three counts of criminal conspiracy and a single charge of grand larceny (greater than $2,000, less than $10,000), Richland County court records show.
A personal recognizance bond for Dixon was set at $150,000 on the combined charges and posted Sunday, according to court records. He’s no longer listed on the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center’s inmate roster, jail records show.
Dixon is scheduled to return to court on Aug. 28, Richland County judicial records show. That’s a week before the Gamecocks are scheduled to play their season-opening game on Sept. 5 against Kent State.
“We are aware of the situation and per Athletic Department policy, he is suspended indefinitely,” a spokesman for the USC football team told The State on Sunday.
When a Gamecocks student-athlete is arrested, it typically means the player is suspended from team activities until their case is resolved or until cleared to return by the coaching staff.
