Man killed in midday shooting in Richland County, South Carolina sheriff says
A man was shot and killed Thursday afternoon in South Carolina, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
At about 12:30 p.m., deputies responded to a reported shooting in the 1600 block of Longcreek Drive, the sheriff’s department said in a news release. That’s near Exit 64 on I-26, which is the junction with Broad River Road in Columbia.
Deputies found an unresponsive man who had been shot in the upper body, the sheriff’s department said.
EMS personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene and the Richland County Coroner’s Office was called, according to the release. The coroner’s office has not publicly identified the victim.
No other injuries were reported.
Information about the shooter, or shooters, and if any more people were involved, was not available. There was no word about a motive for the gunfire.
No arrests have been reported in the shooting that continues to be investigated by the sheriff’s department.
