As the clock counts down to 2026, South Carolinians can step straight into the Upside Down — popcorn in hand.

Four South Carolina movie theaters are bringing the final battle for Hawkins to big screens across the Palmetto State this New Year.

The Netflix hit series “Stranger Things” will stream its final episode across 500 theaters in the U.S. and Canada starting at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 — the same time the episode premieres on Netflix. It will run through Jan. 1.

Here’s where South Carolina fans can ring in the New Year, immersed in the sci-fi, fantasy and horror-filled drama series with characters like Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and Hopper (David Harbour) as they take on the monsters:

About “Stranger Things”

“Stranger Things” first aired in July 2016. It follows a group of teens in the 1980s in the small town of Hawkins, Indiana, who band together to fight the monsters, known as demogorgons, in a parallel universe called the Upside Down.

Created by the Duffer Brothers, Season 2 was released in October 2017 and Season 3 in July 2019. Season 4 was released in two parts in May and July 2022, meaning fans have been waiting three years for this fifth and final season.

Season 5, which kicked off Nov. 26, is being released in three parts. Volume 1 is already streaming with four episodes. Volume 2 will air on Christmas Day with three more episodes, and the finale will stream on New Year’s Eve on Netflix and in theaters.

The series stars Millie Bobbie Brown as Eleven. Other cast members include actors like Winona Ryder, Cara Buono, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink and Joe Keery.

In a statement released by Netflix, the Duffer Brothers said having the final episode stream in theaters is “something we’ve dreamed about for years.”
