SC man who’s wanted for violent crimes led a manhunt over the summer, cops say

There’s a search for a South Carolina man wanted on multiple charges, who was the subject of a manhunt over the summer.

A manhunt is underway for 27-year-old Batesburg resident Cordell Wyman Clark, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said Thursday.

Clark is facing an assault charge and two weapons charges, the sheriff’s department said on social media.

Information about what happened that led to the charges was not available, and there was no word when an incident, or incidents, occurred.

A multi-day manhunt for Clark occurred over the summer, and ended July 30, the sheriff’s department previously said.

Even after deputies got a tip on Clark’s location over the summer, he continued to run.

“As deputies approached the house, Clark ran out the back door,” Sheriff Jay Koon said in July. “We brought in a K-9 and our drone team to track him.”

Deputies and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents ultimately found Clark in a house in the 500 block of Perry Taylor Road, where he was taken into custody, according to Koon.

At that time, Clark was taken to the Lexington County Detention Center where he was charged with resisting arrest and failure to stop for a blue light, according to the sheriff’s department. His bond was set at $15,000 on the combined charges, jail records showed.

Prior to the July manhunt, Clark was originally wanted following a shooting in Aiken County.

Court records show that Clark has been arrested multiple times in Aiken County over the past 5 years.

Anyone who has recently seen Clark, or has information about him, is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.

In the case of an emergency, always call 911.
