South Carolina woman killed in nighttime crash, coroner says
A woman was killed Sunday night when she was involved in a crash, according to the Greenwood County Coroner’s Office.
Aneeka Loraine Childs, a 44-year-old Greenwood resident, is the pedestrian who died in what the coroner’s office called an accident.
At about 9 p.m., Childs was walking on U.S. 25 at Bypass 25 when she was hit by a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was driving south on the same road near Davis Street, said Master Trooper Brandon Bolt of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Childs was taken to an area hospital where she died at 9:28 p.m. after suffering blunt force trauma in the wreck, according to the coroner’s office.
Bolt said the Chevy driver was the only person in the pickup and was not hurt. No other injuries were reported.
Information about what caused the collision was not available, but it continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.
