Check your tickets. Winning Powerball games sold in SC before $861 million drawing
The largest Powerball jackpot of the year continues to grow as an $861 million grand prize went unclaimed after Wednesday night’s drawing, South Carolina Education Lottery officials said in a news release.
But several people who recently bought Powerball tickets in South Carolina won prizes, including a pair of $200,000 jackpot winners, officials said Thursday in a news release.
Now the search is underway to find the winners.
One of the $200,000 winning Powerball games was sold at the P & P Food Mart at 1015 North Main Street in Greer, while the other was purchased at a Food Lion grocery store at 77 State Highway 57 South in Little River, according to the release.
The winning numbers in Wednesday’s drawing were 9, 12, 22, 41, 61 and Powerball: 25.
The odds of matching four white numbers and the red Powerball number are 1-in-913,129, officials said.
Because the winners added the PowerPlay option for an additional dollar, the $50,000 prize quadrupled to $200,000 when a “4” multiplier was drawn, according to the release.
There were two other $50,000 winners who didn’t pay extra for the PowerPlay option, officials said. Those tickets were sold in Blythewood and Bowman.
The winners have 180 days to claim the prizes, according to lottery officials.
The winners will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.
“Sign the back of your ticket and put it in a safe location until you’re ready to come forward to claim the prize,” lottery officials said.

With no winner Wednesday night, the jackpot for Saturday’s Powerball drawing has grown to $950 million, its biggest payout of the year, and the sixth largest prize in the history of the game.
Anyone looking to buy a ticket must make a purchase by 9:59 p.m. Saturday for the 10:59 p.m. drawing. Tickets are $2, and could cost more with additional options.
The odds of winning Powerball’s grand prize are 1-in-293 million.
