Woman who was killed at Columbia home was from North Carolina, officials say

Late Saturday night, the Columbia Police Department said it was investigating a suspicious death. On Monday, police said the death was ruled a homicide.

During a news conference on Monday with police and the Richland County Coroner, the victim was identified as 22-year-old Logan Federico of Waxhaw, North Carolina.

The investigation began after a body was found in a home in the 2700 block of Cypress Street, police said at about 11 p.m. Saturday. That’s in an area between Devine Street and Gervais Street, not far from Five Points.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office has not announced a cause of death. But police said the autopsy results from the coroner’s office turned the suspicious death into a homicide investigation.

Despite where the body was found, investigators determined that Federico didn’t live in Columbia or go to school there, according to police.

Crime scene investigators processed the home for evidence, police said.

No arrests have been reported, but the investigation is ongoing.

“We remain committed to pursuing justice and supporting Logan’s family every step of the way,” police said.
