The Richland County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the man who was hit and killed while running across Interstate 20 near Columbia last week.

The man was hit after a Richland County Sheriff’s Department deputy pulled a vehicle over along I-20 near mile marker 74 around noon on Friday. According to a statement from the sheriff’s department, the vehicle pulled over to the shoulder and a man got out and began to run across the highway, where he was hit.

The sheriff’s department said deputies were not chasing the man when he struck.

He was identified as Tyrance Wise, 46, of Winnsboro, SC.

“We will continue working with the South Carolina Highway Patrol to fully investigate this collision,” Coroner Naida Rutherford said in a news release.
