Want to avoid long lines at the polls in South Carolina next week?

The U.S. General Election is officially a week away. However, South Carolinians still have a few days left to vote early.

Registered voters in South Carolina have been able to vote early for the Nov. 5 election since Oct. 21. Early voting will remain available in the state from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day from now through Saturday, Nov. 2.

How early voting in SC works

Voting early is a little different than doing so on Election Day. You can’t just show up to your usual polling place and expect to cast a ballot.

Early voters must cast their ballots at designated early voting centers in their county. For a complete list of the state’s nearly 140 early voting spots, click here.

Once you do arrive at the proper early voting place, you’ll still need to show one of the following forms of identification:

  • South Carolina driver’s license — standard or a REAL ID

  • South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles ID card — a standard ID card, a REAL ID or a concealed weapons permit

  • South Carolina voter registration card with a photo

  • Federal military ID — either Department of Defense photo ID or Veterans Affairs benefits card

  • US passport or a US passport ID card
