Driver killed when car runs off road and crashes into tree, South Carolina cops say
One person died Wednesday when a car ran off a road and crashed into a tree, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The single-vehicle collision happened in Bamberg County, said Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover.
At about 11:30 a.m., a 2012 Hyundai Sonata was driving east on S.C. 70, and near the intersection with Charleston-Augusta Highway the car ran off the right side of the road, according to Glover. The car then swerved back onto the road and continued off the left side, where it hit a tree, Glover said.
The driver died at the scene, according to Glover.
The Bamberg County Coroner’s Office identified the driver as 21-year-old Denmark (S.C.) resident Tanajah Sapp, the Orangeburg Times & Democrat reported.
There was no word if Sapp was wearing a seat belt.
Glover said the driver was the only person in the car, and no other injuries were reported.
