SC man was running from a car when he was killed, Lexington County deputies say
A South Carolina man was killed over the weekend in a shooting, the Lexington County Coroner’s Office said Tuesday.
Dustin Chase Edward Northcutt, a 32-year-old Lexington resident, was identified as the shooting victim, Coroner Margaret Fisher said in a news release.
The shooting happened late Friday night in the 200 block of Two Notch Road, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. That’s in Lexington, near Exit 58 on Interstate 20, which is the junction with U.S. 1.
Northcutt was shot in the upper body and died at the scene, Fisher said.
Northcutt’s body was discovered lying on the ground near a parking lot by a deputy who was performing a welfare check, according to an incident report. Information about who requested the welfare check was not available.
The deputy said Northcutt appeared to be unconscious, that he wasn’t breathing and had “blood all over him.”
A check showed Northcutt, who was shot in the chest, had no pulse and “was cold to touch,” the deputy said in the incident report.
One black Crocs shoe was near Northcutt’s feet, while the other, as well as a bullet shell, were soon located in front of another building in the 200 block of Two Notch Road, and there was blood found in different areas of a parking lot, the incident report shows.
Surveillance footage from a business in the 200 block showed Northcutt running from an unknown car before he collapsed in the parking lot at about 11:45 p.m. on Oct. 27, according to the incident report.
Northcutt’s book bag was also found in the 200 block of Two Notch, where he was known to stay, a resident told the deputy, the incident report shows.
No other injuries were reported in the shooting.
There was no word on a shooter, or shooters, or anyone else involved. Information about a motive for the shooting was not available.
No arrests have been reported by the sheriff’s department, which is continuing to investigate the shooting along with the coroner’s office.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
