South Carolina

This SC town is ‘the heart of the Lowcountry,’ popular travel publication says. Here’s why

The South Carolina Lowcountry commands attention year after year for its unique natural beauty, historical architecture, culture and tropical climate.

After catching the eye of Travel + Leisure, one area in the region was described by the publication as the “heart of the Lowcountry.”

After first taking note of Charleston’s beaches and restaurant scene, Beaufort’s architecture as well as Edisto Island’s nature and preserved history, the travel magazine continued on to its primary subject.

That locale was Bluffton.

Bluffton was described as being nicknamed the “heart of the Lowcountry and as having one of the best resorts in the state of South Carolina.

In addition, Bluffton was chronicled as “a special place that allows visitors to soak up all of the magic of the region — one oyster, bike ride, and slow afternoon on the porch at a time,” by Travel + Leisure.

“Bluffton is this lovely little pocket nestled in the Lowcountry,” said Brandon Carter, executive chef of Farm, to the magazine. “Live oaks and Spanish moss line the streets. The smell of salt and pluff mud fills the air. It’s a place where community still exists, and there’s a true sense of place.”
