SC man killed in crash — third in about 24-hour span in same county, coroner says

A man riding a motorcycle was killed Sunday in an early morning crash — continuing a deadly stretch on Aiken County roads, according to the coroner’s office.

Danielson Gomez, a 24-year-old North Augusta resident, died in the accident, Coroner Darryl Ables said in a news release.

The single-vehicle collision happened at about 2 a.m..

Gomez was driving a 2012 Ducati 848 north on Old Edgefield Road, near Knox Avenue in North Augusta, when he lost control of the motorcycle on a curve, Ables said. Gomez, who was thrown from the motorcycle, suffered blunt force injuries and died at the scene, according to the release.

No other injuries were reported.

There was no word if Gomez was wearing a helmet.

The crash is being investigated by the coroner’s office and the North Augusta Department of Public Safety. Toxicology analysis is pending, Ables said.
