The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a collision that left a pedestrian dead on a highway in southeast Richland County late Friday.

At approximately 9:21 p.m., a 2015 Dodge Challenger was traveling south on U.S. 601 when it struck and killed a pedestrian who was crossing the highway.

The pedestrian died at the scene, said highway patrol Lance Corporal Brittany Glover. The highway patrol did not release the pedestrian’s name.

The accident took place near Patterson Circle, about five miles north of the town of Eastover.

The driver of the car, who was the only occupant, was not injured, according to Glover. She said the driver was not cited.

The State has contacted the Richland County Coroner’s Office for more information on the deceased.
