SC residents are moving to these 5 states the most, recent US census data shows

Recent research has revealed which states South Carolina residents are moving to the most.

Moving experts at Forbes Home, from forbes.com, analyzed recently released data available on state-to-state migration from the U.S. Census Bureau. This information reveals how many Americans are moving, details where people in each state had been living one year prior and shows where they’re been relocating.

Residents of the Palmetto State aren’t moving too far. In fact, a majority of these residents are reportedly moving to North Carolina more than any other state. During the year of the study, 27,740 people reportedly made the move from South Carolina into North Carolina.

Aside from South Carolina’s northern counterpart, other popular destinations the state’s residents are choosing to move to include Georgia and Florida. These states scored as the second and third most states respectively.

According to the study by Forbes Home, the top five states that South Carolina residents are moving to are:

  1. North Carolina

  2. Georgia

  3. Florida

  4. Virginia

  5. Texas

Georgia, scoring in second place, had a total of 18,828 people making the move to The Peach State from South Carolina during the year of the study.

As for Florida, 9,909 individuals moved from South Carolina to The Sunshine State in 2019, the year of the study, placing it in third.

In fourth, Virginia was a popular state to move to from South Carolina with 9,721 people moving there from South Carolina during the year of the study.

Ranking as the fifth most popular location to move to from South Carolina, Texas showed 9,240 South Carolina residents moving to the state in 2019.

Although these are the states South Carolina residents are moving to most, many still flock to the Palmetto State to take up a permanent residence. In a recent report by Forbes Home, the Palmetto State was ranked as the third most popular state that Americans are moving to in the country.

In this second report, it was listed that southern states made up the top seven moving destinations out of the top 10 states listed in the study.

In this secondary report by Forbes Home, the top 10 states people are moving to include:

  1. Texas

  2. Florida

  3. South Carolina

  4. North Carolina

  5. Georgia

  6. Tennessee

  7. Nevada
