Reports of plane crash at small Midlands airport
An incident occurred at a small Midlands airport Thursday, and reports say it was a plane crash.
Police responded to the Holly Hill Airport in Orangeburg County, town officials confirmed to The State. That’s near U.S. 176 and about 2 miles from downtown Holly Hill.
Further information about the incident was not made available, but multiple media outlets reported a small plane crashed at the publicly-owned airstrip.
Holly Hill Airport manager Ken Mackey said the crash happened at about 11:30 a.m. when the pilot, flying the ultralight plane, hit the hangar, WLTX reported.
No one from the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office was called about the crash or responded to the scene, officials told The State.
The pilot was taken to Trident Health hospital in the Lowcountry, WIS reported. Further information on the pilot’s condition was not available.
Of the 16 planes based at Holly Hill Airport, 15 are single engine and one is an ultralight, according to AirNav.com.
