Flipped tractor trailer blocks traffic on highway headed toward Columbia
Drivers on the Monday morning commute heading toward Columbia were delayed by a tractor trailer that overturned on a highway.
The 18-wheel semi flipped over on Interstate 26, near the 146 mile marker, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. That’s in Orangeburg County, near Exit 145, which is the junction with U.S. 601.
As of 9:30 a.m., all of the westbound lanes were blocked by the wrecked truck, and the only way for drivers to avoid the crash was to slowly pass on the right shoulder of I-26, traffic cameras showed. Vehicles were backed up waiting to pass.
No injuries were reported in the collision that happened at about 5 a.m., according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.
There was no word on what caused the truck to flip on its side.
Highway Patrol said drivers should expect delays, and are asked to used caution if heading through the area on I-26.
Information on how long it would take to clear the lanes and reopen the road was not available.
