Disabled vehicle delays drivers commuting toward Columbia on interstate
Drivers heading toward Columbia on the Monday morning commute were delayed by a disabled vehicle on a highway.
A vehicle broke down on Interstate 20, blocking traffic on all of the eastbound lanes, the South Carolina Department of Transportation said on Twitter.
The vehicle clogged up traffic near Exit 55, at about 8:45 a.m., according to the tweet. That’s the exit for S.C. 6 toward Lexington.
No injuries were reported in the incident, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.
SCDOT cameras showed the traffic jam on I-20, stretching back for miles.
The delays were longer because drivers were unable to move into the open lane since a concrete barrier separated them as part of an ongoing traffic shift on the highway to widen the road.
The lanes were reopened around 8:15 a.m., and traffic cameras showed drivers traveling smoothly through the area.
