Motorcycle rider killed in crash with car on Richland County road, SC cops say
A motorcycle rider was killed in a two-vehicle collision on a Richland County road Monday, South Carolina Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened just before 1:30 p.m. at Clemson Road’s intersection with Salisbury Lane, Cpl. Sonny Collins said. That’s close to Clemson Road’s intersection with HardScrabble Road, and less than two miles from Ridge View High School.
A 2017 Kawasaki motorcycle was heading west on Clemson Road when it smashed into a 2008 Toyota traveling in the opposite direction, according to Collins.
The wreck happened after the car made a left turn onto Salisbury Lane, in front of the motorcycle, Highway Patrol reported.
Collins did not say if the Kawasaki rider was wearing a helmet. There was no word if the motorcyclist died at the scene or at an area hospital.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office will publicly identify the motorcycle rider after notifying the next of kin.
Information on possible criminal charges was not available, but the death remains under investigation by Highway Patrol.
This is the third motorcycle rider killed on a South Carolina road in 2020, according to the Department of Public Safety, and the second in the past week. In the two previous deadly wrecks, that crash victims were not wearing a helmet, the Department of Public Safety reported.
