Early morning collision blocks interstate in Columbia during commute
A crash on an interstate running through Columbia created a traffic jam for drivers during the Wednesday morning commute.
Two southbound lanes on Interstate 77 were closed following a collision, the South Carolina Department of Transportation said on Twitter.
The wreck happened before 6:30 a.m. near Exits 9A/9B in Richland County, according to the tweet. Those are the exits for Garners Ferry Road (U.S. 76, U.S. 378) and Leesburg Road (S.C. 262) respectively.
No injuries were reported in the collision, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety said.
Information on the number of vehicles involved was not available.
SCDOT traffic cameras showed a tractor trailer truck and at least one car were pulled off to the right of the road before the sun had risen, as emergency responders worked at the scene.
There was no word on what caused the wreck.
All of the lanes reopened at about 7 a.m., SCDOT tweeted, but I-77 still had not been cleared.
