A roller coaster at Carowinds makes top 5 list for new theme park attractions in US
The votes are in. Carowinds’ Copperhead Strike was named one of the top five best new amusement park attractions in the nation by USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.
Theme park fans from across the United States voted for their favorite of the top 10 best new attractions selected by USA Today. Copperhead Strike secured the fifth position, coming behind Sesame Street Land at SeaWorld Orlando, Nickelodeon Universe in East Rutherford, N.J., Tigris at Bush Gardens Tampa Bay and Wildwood Grove at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
Carowinds, on the South Carolina-North Carolina border between Fort Mill and Charlotte, opened Copperhead Strike in March 2019.
The coaster includes two launches and holds riders upside down at multiple points.
Copperhead Strike launches riders from 0 to 42 mph in 2.5 seconds, The Herald previously reported. Riders are launched a second time during the ride from 35 to 50 mph in 2 seconds. The entire ride lasts 2 minutes, 24 seconds.
Carowinds is launching a nighttime festival and adding a new water slide for the 2020 season, The Herald previously reported.
