Woman passes out drunk while driving van of patients with disabilities, GA cops say

A driver passed out drunk while patients with disabilities were in her van, Georgia officials say.

A trooper was on patrol late on New Year’s Day when he spotted a woman asleep at the wheel at an intersection in Savannah, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety and WSAV.

After the woman was stirred awake, the trooper smelled alcohol on her breath, officials said in an incident report.

It turns out, the driver had been transporting three passengers with disabilities, the report says. But the woman was “too intoxicated” to tell officials where she was taking them. .

The passengers, who also could not provide that information due to their disabilities, were taken to a hospital while officials searched for someone to take them into custody, according to the report.

Troopers say the driver admitted to drinking but refused to take a field sobriety test.

The woman, Tahera Jonelle Croom, was arrested Wednesday and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and traffic violations, officials say.

The 40-year-old was a “senior citizen healthcare driver,” officials told the Savannah Morning News and other media outlets.

As of Friday afternoon, she was being held in the Chatham County jail, records show. Her bond was listed as $4,050.
