Collision blocks traffic at juncture of two major highways in Midlands
Drivers heading toward downtown Columbia came to a standstill late Thursday morning following a crash that blocked traffic on two major highways running through the Midlands.
The wreck occurred just before 10:30 a.m. on Interstate 26, at the junction with S.C. 126, the South Carolina Department of Transportation said on Twitter.
The collision caused two westbound lanes on the highway to be closed, SCDOT tweeted.
This left drivers stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the highway, SCDOT cameras showed.
The South Carolina Department of Public Safety reported the wreck, but did not say if any injuries were involved.
Information on the number of vehicles involved, or how long it would take to clear the interstate, was not available.
