Man riding bicycle hit in drive-by shooting, and Richland Co. cops search for suspects
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is searching for suspects in a drive-by shooting after a man riding a bicycle was hit by gunfire early Thursday morning.
The shooting occurred at about 1 a.m. in the 10000 block of Two Notch Road, sheriff’s department spokesman Joseph Robinson told The State. That is near the Discount Tobacco convenience store/gas station.
A man was heading south on his bike when a vehicle came from behind and opened fire, Robinson said.
The vehicle drove off and the man was taken to an area hospital, according to the sheriff’s department.
Information on the gunshot victim’s condition was not available.
No description of the vehicle or possible suspects has been released, and there is no word on a possible motive for the shooting.
“At this time it appears he was randomly shot, but this is currently being investigated,” Robinson said.
No other incidents were reported in the area during the same time, the sheriff’s department said.
Information on why the man was riding his bicycle at that hour was not available.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or report it to CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
