Convicted criminal wanted by Lexington County sheriff after escaping on Thanksgiving
A search is underway for a suspected criminal who escaped from law enforcement custody, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday.
The sheriff’s department is asking for the community’s help with information in locating Tyrese Dashawn Johnson.
The wanted man was arrested on multiple burglary charges on Thanksgiving Day, but then escaped from law enforcement, the sheriff’s department said on Twitter.
Information on how the 20-year-old from Leesville got away from law enforcement was not available.
Johnson was arrested on Sandpit Road in Leesville, according to the tweet. That is in the Long Pond area.
Anyone who might see Johnson should keep their distance and immediately call 911, the sheriff’s department said.
He’ll face charges for second-degree burglary, possession of tools used in a crime, criminal conspiracy, safecracking, and unlawful escape, according to the sheriff’s department.
Those with information are asked to call 911 or report it to CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
Johnson was convicted on second-degree burglary charges in February and was released after he served 133 days in jail, court records show.
That was not his only conviction for that crime in Lexington County.
In June 2018, Johnson pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree burglary and possession of a stolen pistol, according to court records. In that case he received a suspended sentence, and was ordered to 36 months of probation and to pay $1,000 in restitution.
Johnson had previous charges disposed in 2016 and 2017 in Lexington County courts after he was arrested for credit card theft, stealing gas, pointing and presenting a firearm, malicious injury to a pet, larceny and possession of marijuana or hash, court records show.
