Search continues for missing SC fisherman who fell off his boat, Coast Guard says
The search for a man who went missing in a South Carolina harbor Wednesday continued a day later, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
The Coast Guard is searching for a missing boater in Charleston Harbor, according to a news release.
After reporting a crewless boat was found idling in the harbor, on Thursday the Coast Guard identified the missing man as Terrance Singleton.
The North Charleston resident’s 25-foot Pro-Line crabbing vessel was floating in the harbor with no one on board, according to the news release.
A shoe, live bait and catch were found on board the vessel, the Coast Guard said.
The boat was discovered by the Coast Guard when one of its ships was embarking on a training exercise, according to the news release.
A Coast Guard spokesman said it’s believed that Singleton fell off the boat, but there are not many clues for investigators, NavyTimes reported.
The 30-year-old Singleton’s family runs T and J Seafood, according to WCSC.
In addition to boats on the water, a helicopter crew is assisting with the search, according to the news release.
Aiding the Coast Guard in the search are crews from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, Charleston Police Department, North Charleston Fire Department and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
A DNR official said its crews were contacted about the search around 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to WCIV. DNR will lead the investigation into Singleton’s disappearance, not the Coast Guard, per NavyTimes.
