Four people found dead in a house that caught fire in North Carolina were two parents and their kids, officials said.

Four people — including two children — were found dead after a fire tore through a North Carolina home, officials said.

Those who died are parents and their kids, who were about 8 months old and 4 years old, the Davie County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

A driver passing by the home saw smoke and went to a nearby fire department to report it on Monday, April 18, Sheriff JD Hartman said during a news conference, according to video from WFMY.

Firefighters rushed to the home and found the inside of it engulfed in flames. As crews were putting out the blaze, they found four bodies, Hartman said in the WFMY video.

Officials said firefighters made the discovery after being called at about 2:15 p.m. to a home in Mocksville, roughly 25 miles southwest of Winston-Salem.

“The Davie County Sheriff Office responded to the scene to begin an investigation due to some suspicious circumstances discovered by firefighters,” deputies wrote.

The four people found dead inside the home weren’t identified in a news release. Autopsies could help determine how the family died, according to officials.
