If you’re looking for the upside to a recall covering 489,887 pounds of frozen breakfast sandwiches, it’s that at least manufacturer Hearthside Food Solutions found the problem and there’s a very defined group affected.

The downside, of course, is if you’re in the very defined group: You’ve bought Lettieri’s Food to Go French Toast breakfast sandwiches; has or serves food to someone with a sesame allergy; and shops at one of the nation’s Army & Air Force Exchange Services locations.

“The Exchange is a joint non-appropriated fund instrumentality of the Department of Defense (DoD),” the Air Force website explains, “and provides quality merchandise and services to active duty, Guard and Reserve members, military retirees and their families at competitively low prices.“

Hearthside sent the breakfast sandwiches to Exchange stores before finding that the French toast contained sesame flour, but sesame wasn’t included among the allergens listed on the label. A negligible problem to most people, a problem that can range from breakouts to death for those with a sesame allergy.

Both the recalled Sausage, Egg & Cheese and Bacon, Egg & Cheese French Toast Breakfast Sandwiches have lot numbers that begin with “23,” “24,” and “25” up to 2508451. The establishment number in the USDA inspection mark is “EST. V4907.” They were made from April 1, 2023, to March 25 of this year and have a 12-month freezer life.

If you need to return the sandwiches, do so or throw them in the garbage. If you don’t have a sesame allergy and there’s no chance someone with a sesame allergy will eat these sandwiches, carry on as normal.
