Jason Fackler, one of six potential candidates for Hilton Head Island Town Council, has withdrawn his name from the race for the vacant Ward 3 seat, according to the town.

The local businessman owns Koalaty Trading Inc., an apparel and accessories company that operates kiosks, a wine and beer sipping room, and a sunglasses store in the Coligny Plaza area.

His withdrawal Tuesday leaves five possible candidates for the mid- and south-island post vacated by Lee Edwards upon his move from Ward 3 in February. The seat represents the neighborhoods of Ashton Cove, Bay Pines, Brighton Bay, Broad Creek Landing, Broad Creek Marina, Cedar Woods, Old House Creek, Point Comfort, Spanish Wells, Timbercrest, Wexford and Yacht Cove.

The remaining council hopefuls are community leader and board member David Ames, businesswoman Cindy Hague Bullock, marketing coordinator Ryan McAvoy, restaurateur Brendan Reilley, and businessman Palmer Simmons.

The town has submitted their names to the Beaufort County Board of Voter Registration and Elections, which will verify their eligibility.

The last day to register to vote is April 3. The special election will be held May 3.
