Straw poll: Hilton Head GOP club picks Rubio

A Hilton Head Island Republican club picked Marco Rubio as its favorite, in a straw poll taken Monday.

Donald Trump came in second and Ted Cruz in third, in the poll by the Hilton Head Island 1st Monday Republican Lunch Group.

Out of a total 101 ballots, Rubio got 32 votes; Trump, 25; and Cruz, 11.

Other results: John Kasich, 5; Jeb Bush, 3; Carly Fiorina, 3; Ben Carson, 2; Chris Christie, 2; undecided, 9; did not vote, 9.

The last such poll the club took was taken May 4. The top votes then went to Scott Walker, 38; Rubio 30; Cruz, 16; Carson 14, Kasich, 11; Fiorina, 11; and Trump, 3.

Notes: For the May 4, 2015, poll, respondents voted for up to three candidates and not in any particular order. A total of 54 people cast a total of 150 votes. Some people voted for less than three, but none were allowed to vote for a single candidate three times.
