First Bluffton candidate forum to be held Wednesday

The public will get its first chance Wednesday to ask policy questions of all the candidates running for Bluffton mayor and town council.

The League of Women Voters of the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Area is hosting a forum at 7 p.m. at Town Hall, 20 Bridge Street.

The forum is expected to last until about 8:30 p.m., but could go longer depending on how many questions the public has for the candidates, league president Fran Holt said.

If you can't attended Wednesday, a second forum is scheduled later in the month.

The Greater Bluffton Republican Club is hosting its forum at 5 p.m. Oct. 21, also at Town Hall.

Two seats on town council up for grabs.

The candidates for those seats are incumbent councilman Ted Huffman, Oliver Brown, Brendan Downey, Dan Wood, Michael Spears, Eleanor McKinsey-Chandler, Jim Sims, and Harry Lutz.

Councilwoman Karen Lavery is not seeking re-election.

In the race for the town's top elected position, incumbent mayor Lisa Sulka will be challenged by current Beaufort County Councilwoman Cynthia Bensch.

The election is Nov. 3.
