Alex Brown was reelected as the Ward 1 representative on the Hilton Head Town Council and will continue to represent residents living in the area between Squire Pope Road south to Union Cemetery Road on the island for the next four years.

Brown, the incumbent who served the island since 2020 and is a fifth-generation native islander of Gullah descent, defeated Daniel Anthony, a 40-year resident and co-founder and president of the Jonesville Preservation Society.

With 100% of the votes counted, Brown secured 1,400 votes, or 68.4%, topping Daniel Anthony, who received 638 votes, 31.1%, according to the unofficial vote count from 12:10 a.m. Wednesday.

In a Facebook post late Tuesday night, Brown said, “Thank you for all the support! I look forward to another 4 years! We All Win!”

Brown was the chair of the finance committee and served as the liaison between the Island Recreation Center and the town. He also served on the board for the Gullah Geechee Historic Neighborhoods Community Development Corporation, the IW Wilborn Scholarship Committee and the Northpoint Public-Private Partnership Housing Advisory Committee.

If re-elected, he said, finalizing the resolution for the gateway corridor issues, supporting the island’s workforce by advocating for accessible housing and transportation solutions, investing in infrastructure, would be at the forefront of Brown’s priority list.

Brown will sit on the council with newly-elected Steve DeSimone, Ward 3, and Melinda Tunner, Ward 6, along with Patsy Brison, Tamara Becker and Steve Alfred, council members whose terms do not expire until December 2026.
