McMaster, Cunningham coming to Beaufort County as governor’s race enters final week

As campaign season reaches its crucial final days, both top candidates for South Carolina governor are visiting Beaufort County this week.

Republican Gov. Henry McMaster and Democratic challenger Joe Cunningham, the race’s primary candidates, will make their final arguments to local voters ahead of the Nov. 8 election.

McMaster is hosting a rally at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Beaufort’s Freedom Park, located along Bay Street between the Best Western and the Downtown Marina.

The governor’s Beaufort rally is the sixth stop of his statewide bus tour, spanning 19 South Carolina towns and culminating in Lexington the night before the election. He will be joined by the GOP candidate for lieutenant governor, Pamela Evette.

Cunningham will visit Shellring Ale Works in Port Royal from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday for one of the final stops of his statewide “Countdown to Freedom” tour. He’ll be joined by his running mate Tally Casey, South Carolina’s Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor.

The events are open to the public.
