Campaign season begins in Beaufort County for municipal offices. Here’s who’s on the ballot
The deadline to file to run for municipal offices in Beaufort County was noon Monday.
There are 11 municipal positions up for election this year: two Beaufort City Council seats; three Hilton Head Town Council seats, Hilton Head mayor; two commissioner seats in the Fripp Island Public Service District and three commissioner seats in the Hilton Head Island Public Service District.
There are no open seats for municipal elections in Bluffton, Port Royal and Yemassee this year.
These contests will appear on the Nov. 8 general election, along with countywide offices, such as Beaufort County sheriff, auditor and seats on the County Council, and state offices, including governor, state representative and state senator. The candidates for these contests were determined in the June primaries.
Municipal elections are non-partisan and candidates do not run under traditional party labels, such as Democrat or Republican.
