Democratic candidate to visit historic Hilton Head school, Beaufort cafe on Wednesday
A woman hoping to win the Democratic Party’s nomination for president will be on Hilton Head Island and in Beaufort Wednesday to meet with voters and discuss issues.
U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, who was elected to Congress in 2012, will be at the historic Old Cherry Hill School from 2:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. for a community round table, and at The Gullah Jazz Cafe in Beaufort from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., according to a news release from her campaign.
The release did not specify which topics will be discussed at either event, but both are open to the public.
Old Cherry Hill School, located at 210 Dillon Road on Hilton Head’s north end, was built in 1937 and is the last remaining schoolhouse built solely for African American children on the island. It is across the street from St. James Church.
Both buildings will be moved in the coming years to accommodate the Hilton Head Island Airport runway protection zone.
The Gullah Jazz Cafe is located at 711 Bladen Street near Beaufort Elementary School.
