How to register to vote in S.C.’s presidential primary before Thursday’s deadline

Heads up, voters!

The deadline to register to vote in South Carolina’s upcoming Democratic presidential primary is Thursday, Jan. 30.

The state’s presidential primary will be held Saturday, Feb. 29.

Beaufort County residents can register to vote online, in person or by mail.

Online: Register to vote by visiting the South Carolina Election Commission website.

In person: Visit the Beaufort or Bluffton office of voter registration and elections at 15 John Galt Road and 61B Ulmer Road, respectively. The offices are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

By mail: Download a voter registration form from the South Carolina Election Commission website, complete it, and return it to the Beaufort County board of voter registration. Return the form by emailing it to Vote.Beaufort@Elections.SC.Gov, faxing it to 843-255-9429 or mailing it to the Board of Elections Post Office Drawer 1228, Beaufort, SC 29901.

Email and fax registrations must be sent prior to 11:59 p.m. Jan. 30, and mail registrations must be postmarked by Jan. 30.

To register to vote, you must have an S.C. Driver’s License or your DMV ID number, according to Beaufort County’s voter registration and elections office.
