Sanford calls on feds to stop review of seismic testing
Seismic testing is used to search the ocean floor for offshore oil, but Sanford and the legislators are raising red flags about its potential environmental consequences.
"The current basis for issuing seismic testing permits is incomplete," Sanford said in a news release. "It does not take into account the long-term effects that seismic testing will have on marine life or the impact on the economy due to industrialization of the coast."
Beaufort, Hilton Head Island and Port Royal town councils have all voted to oppose the testing.
