Hilton Head’s Deputy Town Manager Josh Gruber presents to the town council a proposed change to beach parking fees Tuesday afternoon in council chambers.

Josh Gruber, the deputy town manager for Hilton Head Island, will be moving west to serve as the city manager in Hardeeville. His last day, after six years serving the island, is tomorrow.

Gruber is most looking forward to the open future that Hardeeville holds. While living in the Lowcountry for the past 15 years, Gruber has watched Hardeeville grow exponentially with development opportunities for future businesses and an evolving sense of place. He is looking forward to putting his impression on the city and assisting the community as it continues to grow.

While on Hilton Head’s staff, Gruber said he was honored to learn from “some of the best local government professionals” he has worked with. He leaves the island proud of the land acquisitions he assisted with, knowing that they will be a great asset to the island community in the future, Gruber added.

The Deputy Town Manager is responsible for assisting the Town Manager, Marc Orlando, in implementing town policies, procedures, plans and ordinances.

According to Orlando, the town will not be filling the deputy town manager position.

“We have redistributed his responsibilities among our capable staff, who are fully equipped to continue serving the community. We’re grateful for Josh’s many contributions to the Town and proud of the work he accomplished here. We wish him all the best in his new role as City Manager with the City of Hardeeville,” he wrote.
