Deputy County Administrator resigns, replaced with Finance Director
Beaufort County Deputy Administrator Whitney Richland has been replaced with the former county Director of Finance, Denise Christmas.
Amid the swirling controversies of the investigation into former administrator Eric Greenway’s alleged misconduct, documents came to light detailing an ill-fated plan for Beaufort County to purchase nearly $36,000 of weighted blankets from a company owned by Richland’s husband.
Weeks ago numerous county employees confirmed seeing Richland moving out of her office at the county government center at 100 Ribaut Road in Beaufort. On Friday, Beaufort County confirmed to the Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette that Richland had resigned, but declined to comment any specifics surrounding her departure.
On Friday, it was announced that Finance Director Denise Christmas would be taking over the role on an interim basis. She was appointed the role of Interim Deputy County Administrator by Interim Administrator John Robinson.
