Democratic candidates for governor and lieutenant governor, Joe Cunningham and Tally Casey, will host a rally Wednesday in Bluffton.

The rally will be held at 2 p.m. at the Lowcountry Fresh Market & Cafe, 303 Bleeker Street, Bluffton.

Cunningham served from 2019-21 as the representative for South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District, which includes Hilton Head Island, Charleston and much of the Lowcountry. He was narrowly unseated by current Rep. Nancy Mace in 2020, earning 49% of votes to Mace’s 51%.

In June, Cunningham defeated four primary challengers to win the Democratic nomination for South Carolina’s gubernatorial race. He announced Casey as his running mate on Aug. 1.

Casey is a veteran who served three tours in Iraq and became the state’s first female fighter pilot with the South Carolina Air National Guard. She is also a graduate of Princeton University and the University of Virginia School of Law with 20 years of practice in health care and commercial law.
